Welcome to Chapter 1 of Islamiat for Class 6! In this chapter, we will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of Islam.

Meaning of Islam

Islam is derived from the Arabic root word 'silm' or 'salam', which means peace and submission. In a religious context, Islam means submission to the will of Allah.

Five Pillars of Islam

Islam is built upon five fundamental acts of worship, known as the Five Pillars of Islam:

  1. Shahada (Faith): Declaring and believing in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad.

  2. Salah (Prayer): Performing the five daily prayers facing the Kaaba in Mecca.

  3. Zakat (Charity): Giving a portion of one's wealth to those in need, typically 2.5% of one's savings annually.

  4. Sawm (Fasting): Observing fasting during the month of Ramadan, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset.

  5. Hajj (Pilgrimage): Performing the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime, if physically and financially able.

Beliefs in Islam

Muslims believe in the six articles of faith:

  1. Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
  2. Belief in angels.
  3. Belief in the holy books, including the Qur'an.
  4. Belief in the prophets, including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.
  5. Belief in the Day of Judgment.
  6. Belief in predestination (Qadar).

Importance of Studying Islam

Studying Islam helps Muslims understand their faith, principles, and obligations. It also promotes tolerance, respect, and understanding among people of different beliefs.
